Does the suction really hold?
On a smooth clean surface, yes. Wipe the tiles or the side of the tub first, press the mat on firmly and give it a tug before you let him at it. It will not hold on rough tile, textured plastic or anything with a film of soap on it, so a quick wipe first makes all the difference.
What should I put on it?
Anything soft enough to spread and thin enough to work into the grooves. Peanut butter, plain yoghurt, wet food, mashed banana or pumpkin all work. Check the label on peanut butter before you use it, since some brands contain xylitol and that is not safe for dogs.
How do I clean it, and can I freeze it?
Straight in the dishwasher, or wash it by hand with warm soapy water and a brush to get down into the grooves. You can freeze it too. Spread it, lay it flat in the freezer for an hour, then hand it over. A frozen mat easily lasts twice as long as a fresh one.
Can I leave him alone with it?
We would rather you did not. It is soft silicone, so a determined chewer can take a corner off it. Use it while you are with him, which is the point of it anyway, then rinse it and put it away.
